Manchester United could enter the transfer market for a new striker at the end of the ongoing campaign.
The Red Devils have had a dreadful Premier League season. They are presently 13th with 29 points on the board.
The club have struggled in the final third. There has been no major improvement under manager Ruben Amorim.
Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have got turns to lead the attack, but neither have been consistent enough.
Zirkzee has shown signs of improvement, but Amorim is likely to demand a marquee centre-forward in the summer.
The Portuguese would ideally prefer a reunion with Viktor Gyokeres, who has been exceptional for Sporting CP.
The Swede has 34 goals from as many outings this term and he could pursue a bigger challenge this summer.
There is a release clause worth £85m in his contract, but he has a gentleman’s agreement to leave for £62m.
United could seriously consider triggering the clause if Hojlund and Zirkzee don’t improve their scoring frequency.
