Manchester United are ready to battle it out with Arsenal to sign Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui at the end of the ongoing campaign, according to Caught Offside.
Retegui signed for the Serie A giants from Genoa last summer. He has been in exemplary form for the club with 23 goals from 34 outings.
His performances have enhanced his reputation and reports claim that Arsenal and United could compete for his services during the summer.
Atalanta have already done business with United in the past. They have sold Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo to the Red Devils.
This could help United in the pursuit, but they can’t expect any discount. Atalanta want around 50 million pounds for the striker.
It remains to be seen whether United can afford his signature. His arrival could depend on a big-money exit when the season ends.
United will be hoping that Aston Villa trigger the option to purchase Marcus Rashford following his short-term loan until June 30.
