Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou for a reported fee of around €15 million.
The Blues explored the transfer market for a new midfielder on deadline day and eventually recruited Amougou from Saint-Etienne.
The 19-year-old has signed an eight-year contract with the Blues and he will train with the first-team for the rest of the campaign.
He said: “I’m very happy. It’s an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.”
The Blues plan to loan Amougou out to sister club Strasbourg next season. Andrey Santos, who is currently on loan at the Ligue 1 side from Chelsea, will become a first-team player for the Blues.
Chelsea have an ambitious project with several wonderkids. They are expected to integrate Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez this summer.
The duo are considered among the best young talents in world football and it remains to be seen whether they can hit the ground running.
